I create abstract art. In my practice I focus on evocative character of work and formal elements of art, mainly on color and line, trying to transform my materials into a strong, rich artistic expression. Each painting is a mystery. It takes practice and effort to develop, go deeply into the painting and be focused on what the image wants to reveal. I react to each move and respond in a way that brings me to unexpected, unknown territories, where the only thing that matters is my openness to art and creation. I came from a musical background prior to Visual Art studies, and I bring these experiences to my art process.
My paintings can be described as an abstract landscape and they derive from childhood memories.
I started painting and drawing very early. Listening to my Father’s storytelling, looking at the sky and surrounding landscape, being connected to nature created strong memories which also are largely associated with music that I grew up with as a young piano player. They encompass musical and visual aspect which influence each other and manifest in a process of creation.
One of me father’s favorite thing was to encourage me to paint, but to paint how I feel about it rather than how I see it. So I started doing abstract landscapes that only I could identify and when I could see that aura and atmosphere of this memory then I called the painting done. Since then I continuously focus on this „Childhood/Universe” theme and bring these fascinations to my painting.
My recent series entitled: „Inner Child’s Play”, „Parallel Worlds”, „Habitable Planets” all derive from childhood memories.
I want to capture and celebrate ethereal aspect of memories...
My recent work expands an ongoing investigation of the interaction of childhood memories, passage of time and a sense of place. I am interested in how memory forms our sense of being and how that can be affected by the adversities of the present. This series captures images of conversations with my father, places where I spent time in my childhood and the intricate relationship that I have with music as integral part of my life from very early age. I am interested in the visual metaphor that they create together. I find that the act of physical movement of practicing and performing music transforms my mind and gives me the freedom for contemplation and visualization, also in terms of translating sound into color, line, texture and form. But that transformation is always subordinated to the visual aspect of composition, which becomes priority. The painting becomes independent value and instead of depicting music, it departs far away from original thought. My images reflect this sense of movement and in this way explore childhood memories.
My work also manifest the feeling of nostalgia, childlike freedom, longing for something past, it reminds you that what you remember will never happen again. Each painting physically identify this emotion in a metaphorical way, capturing a moment that comes and goes, leaving only the visual sign behind as proof of its existence.
I hope that evocative side of my works will help the viewers response to it and became part of it. I want viewers to like their own experience of ‘being in the painting’ and find it a place for contemplation and solace.
