My artistic practice is predominately photographic and has been presented in a number of different methods including wall-hung, installation, integrated into the fabric of buildings and book format. I approach each new body of work or commission using a variety of strategies. I consider it important for my process to constantly question the style and approach that I take with each piece. My most recent work has dealt with the natural world and the issues around the lived experience. I am interested in the potential in the presentation of photographic ideas especially as multiples, in formats such as books and newsprint. As objects and artifacts, from transitory to permanent form. Photography as an art form lends itself to multiple readings, and as such I endeavor to make work which can be appreciated on different levels and by diverse audiences, playing with the balance between the conceptual and the aesthetic and the function and form. 

Michael’s practice is predominantly photographic. His work can be viewed as a playful enquiry into the everyday, presented through a variety of formats from installation, wall hung images and photographic books. Exhibited in solo and group exhibitions in National and International spaces including, Gallery of Photography Dublin, National Portrait Gallery London and Cite Internationale des Arts Paris. He has produced  commissioned works for the EU Council of Ministers’ Brussels, the European Central Bank Frankfurt, and Waterford Healing Arts Trust among other national institutions. Michael’s work has been published as books and catalogues and his work is held in private and public collections in Ireland, Europe, and America  including The National Photographic Archive Ireland, Central Bank of Ireland, Musee Niece France, St. John’s Municipal Collection Newfoundland and MoMA New York (artist book archive).
