Rebecca Styles

Born 1982, Bradford, UK/ Resides and works in Lincolnshire, UK

At the heart of the artists Creative process, is a deep and powerful reverence for the natural world. Rebecca chooses to work on a natural ground, and with oil and paints created with pigment foraged at source, to bind her works with a strong connection to place. She sees the creation of each painting, as an opportunity for reflection on the human journey, Inspired by the unaltered landscape. She works nomadically across the British Isles and beyond, creating works which evoke a sense of the sublime. Rebecca's paintings create space to question the human/nature relationship, inviting the viewer to stand alone within a painted wilderness, encouraging a period of quiet introspection. The wild Atlantic coastline of her childhood holidays on the Isle Arran, along with her memories of the rugged and unspoilt North Yorkshire moors, paved the way to her love of the untamed wild and raw.

Her work is exhibited in galleries across the UK, and held in private collections in America, Australia and Europe. She is the recipient of a Vacma Award and Creative Scotland Artist Bursary for her work involving local raw pigments and traditional paint making.
