Margaret lives and works on the West coast of the Western Isles, with her husband, painter David Knight.

Margaret aesthetically responds to the relationship between the vast sky and Atlantic Ocean and open moorlands, which leaves one feeling vulnerable and microscopic in ones own existence. The drawings aim to deal with this feeling of scale and synergy. The relentless flux of the Atlantic projects a powerfully turbulent yet invigorating energy. The form of the peaty land rises and drops like waves, sculpted by the rhythm of the wind and rain, juxtaposed against the hard igneous rock formations, rich in surface textures that echo that rhythmical movement of the elements. Vegetation such as kelps, sea grasses, the machair and rare tree forms, rhythmically bend, twist and flow through lengthy exposure to these changeable weather conditions. The simple mediums of charcoal, graphite and rubbers offer a huge dexterous range of mark making, to sympathetically suggest a sense of this specific landscape. The atmospheric elements interchange within the work in order to form a lyrical environmental cohesion.
