Statement

'Can Slag heaps help save the planet?' (The Observer 23.04.17 THE NEW REVIEW p.19)

My developing art practice is based on issues related to the effect on us of multiple and often miniscule aspects of external change in every day life. For instance, the transition of iron to metal and the movement of its production across continents; the effects from how we establish physical and mental borders and; how we are touched emotionally by human induced change to our environment, all entice me to create visual references.  The outcomes inevitably reflect the industrial, urban and material setting in which I have lived and worked, in and on. The painting 'Site Genesis' presents the first stage of scientific research exploring ways to use steel industry wast to capture carbon dioxide.  Most media interest me but painting has become my main tool and I have had a fortunate schooling from staff and colleagues at Glasgow School of Art, Havering College and Central Saint Martins.  I have worked and exhibited in Europe and Asia and currently work from a studio in Essex.
