Multi-media artworks with text. Depictions of rare flora & fauna, made with clear crystal, diamond dust and precious metals or colourful abstractions depicted in printed & painted oils on canvas. My intention is to invoke a sense of the special value and delicacy of endangered species and also places of environmental importance.
Siobhan Healy (1976, Glasgow, Scotland)
Healy's experience spans a wide range of interests; from providing a lecture on the rare species- Ghost Orchids at Harvard University; to having her name embossed on a satellite that went into space; to collaborating with eminant writer Alasdair Gray on several occasions; or growing an amazonian watermelon in post-industrial Possil as an art exhibit...her work is dificult to classify.
Her artwork has gained prestigious, worldwide prizes and it can be found in notable museum collections. The combination of innovative work combining science, art and environment, which pushes the boundaries of materials, has allowed her to develop a unique practice. Her pieces relating to rare wild flowers (Ghost Orchids) are now part of the Harvard University collection, USA and the Scottish Parliament Art Collection. Also, Sir David Attenborough has one of these artworks in his collection.
