My mixed media artwork explores surface, form, texture and colour. Gouache and inks are added to watercolour-based works on paper; canvases are layered with texture and colour while a unique technique using plaster and textiles is used for bookworks and sculpture.

Inspiration and the underlying narrative to my work are drawn from the Scottish islands with their rich history, culture and landscapes.  Further inspiration is also taken from those artists who have also responded to the islands of the north such as Sylvia Wishart and Wilhelmina Barns-Graham.

The cottages, bothies and shielings on the Isle of Lewis, Outer Hebrides inspire my current work. Many lie derelict yet were once home to previous generations of islanders. These echoes of existence intrigue me. I’ve developed this work using texture along with collage, acrylic paints and ink and have breathed new life into these deserted places.
